If you’re looking for the perfect all-around travel credit card, look no further than the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card. The Chase Sapphire Preferred is a travel rewards credit card that offers amazing rewards, top-notch travel protections, a low annual fee, and a bunch of perks that make your travels more enjoyable! Let’s dive into why this card is a total game-changer!
Benefits You Want in Your Wallet
1. Sweet Welcome Offer
First things first: the welcome bonus! Right now you can earn 60,000 points after spending $4,000 on purchases on the card in the first 3 months. All you have to do is swap out your debit card for this credit card, charge your normal monthly expenses, and meet the minimum spending requirement. Then hello, dream vacation!
2. Points Galore
With the Chase Sapphire Preferred, you earn 3 points per dollar on dining (yes, that includes takeout!), select streaming services, and online grocery orders. When booking travel, you’ll earn 5 points per dollar spent for travel booked through Chase Travel℠, and 2 points per dollar on all other travel purchases. For everything else, you earn 1 point per dollar. And lastly, you receive a $50 annual hotel credit on your cardmember anniversary when you book a hotel through the Chase Travel℠ portal. So whether you’re booking flights or treating yourself to a fancy dinner, those points are stacking up in no time!
3. Ultimate Rewards® (so appropriately named)
The points you earn from this card are part of the Chase Ultimate Rewards® program. You can redeem your points for travel, gift cards, cash back, and you can even transfer them to various airlines and hotels for maximum value (my favorite option!). The options are endless!
4. Travel Protections That Have Your Back
Traveling can be unpredictable, but the Chase Sapphire Preferred has you covered with some serious travel protections:
Trip Cancellation/Interruption Insurance: If life throws a curveball and you have to cancel your trip, you could get reimbursed for non-refundable expenses.
Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver: Renting a car? You’re covered against theft and damage as long as you pay with your card.
Travel Accident Insurance: Gives you peace of mind while you’re on the road (or in the air!).
5. Bye-Bye Foreign Transaction Fees
Planning a getaway to Europe or Asia? No worries! This card has no foreign transaction fees, so you can use it wherever your travels take you without the extra charges.
How to use these points
You will hear me say again and again, transferring your flexible points to transfer partners is the best way to get maximum value for those points and book some pretty epic travels in the process! Chase partners with 14 different airline and hotel partners that you can transfer your points to:
Aer Lingus
Air Canada
Air France/KLM/Flying Blue
British Airways
Emirates
Iberia
JetBlue
Singapore
Southwest
United
Virgin Atlantic
Hyatt
IHG
Marriott
My top 3 from this list are easily 1) Hyatt 2) Southwest and 3) United. But why you might ask? Because this is the only bank that transfers to those programs and they are a few sweet spots in the points and miles world (especially Hyatt which is where most of my Chase Ultimate Rewards go).
If you’re looking for a simpler booking process, you can also use these points to book flights, hotels, rental cars, etc. in the Chase Travel℠ portal. You will get 25% more value when you redeem your points for airfare, hotels, car rentals and cruises through Chase Travel℠. For example, 60,000 points are worth $750 toward travel, which is a nice perk!
A few other tid-bits you should know…
This personal card will count toward 5/24 and you must be under 5/24 to be eligible to apply.
This card comes with a $95 annual fee, and keep in mind, that annual fee does not count toward your minimum spending requirement.
