Sit back, browse the movie selection, and enjoy the exceptional KLM business class experience with a stellar menu, tasty beverage selection, and excellent service. And don’t forget to pick out the perfect Delft house!

Boarding and pre-departure

If you’ve ever flown, you know that the onboarding process can really set the tone for the whole flight. From the moment we stepped on the plane, until we touched down in Amsterdam, the KLM in-flight service was fantastic.

As soon as I put my carry-on bag away, the flight attendant for our section offered us a selection of pre-flight beverages. Most business class flights have either plain fruit juice or champagne, but with KLM, I got to sit back and enjoy a nice glass of Chianti while Aimee went for an absolutely delicious Royal Blue Legend mocktail.

After the welcome drink service, the flight attendants came around with your warm towel, your menu for the flight, and these really unique amenity kits that unfolded into a tote bag!

The Seats

When considering a business class flight, the comfort of your seat and personal area have to be worth your points! Whether seated or laying down, KLM business class seats provide exceptional comfort.

Comfort aside, though, there are a few considerations to be aware of. Even though we had honeymoon style seating, all the seat controls and storage areas were right in the middle, putting quite a bit of distance between the two of us. This made it difficult to chat and share those wonderful menu items from above. Most of the buttons were also touch-sensitive, and I was constantly activating something or adjusting something else unintentionally. But that aside, when it was time to turn off The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and get some sleep, I was out until the breakfast service.

The Menu - Dinner

My first look at the menu was met with not a small amount of skepticism. Cauliflower curry? Goat cheese? Matcha sauce? While none of these are foods I would normally go for, I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by the flavor and quality of each course.

The creamy cauliflower curry was flavorful without being grainy and the roll could have come straight from a bakery counter. I’m all for a fun take on a salad, and the goat cheese, pear, and honey glazed walnuts will now be counted as some of my favorite toppings. For the main course, I went for the tasting of delicacies with the short rib, with my only complaint being that I wanted more of it! The baked potato was what you would expect out of a baked potato, while the apples and sweet carrots were just okay. The star of the dish was definitely the short rib.

Left to right: menu, appetizer, main course, dessert.

Beverage Selection

There was no shortage of wines or spirits to pick from, and they even had a KLM take on an old fashioned - The Very High Fashioned (my favorite!).

You could also find all of your standard beverage options, from sodas, to coffee, tea, or juice. You could even get their signature blue mocktail (Aimee’s favorite!).

Breakfast

For someone who prefers eggs pretty much every morning for breakfast, this was the least exciting meal. The chia coconut oatmeal was served cold, as was the cold plate with salmon and cheddar. Cold salmon for breakfast is a European staple I have never taken a liking to. The hot dish of crêpes with pineapple compote, raspberry coulis and caramelized orange zest was just too sweet for my taste.

Aimee did have a vegetarian dish that consisted of eggs, roasted vegetables, and cheese, which was the best of the breakfast options.

KLM Exclusive Delft Houses

For over 50 years, KLM has provided a unique collectors item for intercontinental business class flyers: the Delft House. Each house is representative of a real Dutch building and is filled with Dutch gin (yes, you can bring it on your connecting flight since it is less than 100ml and it’s sealed). Each house is unique and numbered, with new designs coming out on October 7th each year.

How we booked this flight

There are multiple ways that you can book KLM flights which gives you lots of options for earning these points and booking this luxurious flight! You can book directly through KLM, or you can book through a partner like Air France, Virgin Atlantic, or Delta. We found this specific award availability on Virgin Atlantic and even snagged this deal for less that the cost of booking directly through KLM.

We paid 48,500 points and $302 in taxes per person.

Here are a few of our top recommendations for earning points for KLM flights:

💳Capital One Venture X Rewards Credit Card

💳Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card

Final Thoughts

The most positive review of a business class flight that I can think of is whether I would be willing to spend the points on it for another fight in the future. And the answer to that for KLM is yes. While the seat layout wasn’t my favorite, it was nothing that would keep me from flying with KLM again in the future, and besides, we need to start filling out our Delft House collection!
